How the data is collected, processed and checked

This page explains where the Työmarkkinadata figures come from, how they are counted, what conclusions they support, and how articles and reports are produced.

Where the data comes from

We collect open job postings every day from over 50 sources. They are of three kinds: company career pages, recruitment platforms, and public job channels such as Job Market Finland.

Employer details are matched to the Finnish trade register. The skills views also include international tech job postings, and they are labelled as international data.

How postings are processed

Collection is automatic and runs every day. The same posting is often published in several channels. We merge it across sources into one row, so the same job is not counted more than once.

Every posting is classified by region, municipality, industry and employer. Language requirements are taken from the posting text as the employer states them.

Skills and professions are identified from the posting text with an AI model. The model can misread a single posting, so the skills data is best read as trends and orders of magnitude rather than exact figures.

How the figures are counted

Daily figures cover the latest complete day. Postings from the current day are included once the following night’s collection has finished.

The figures count postings. They are not counts of vacancies or hires, because one posting can cover several positions.

Percentage changes compare two periods of equal length. If either period has too few postings for a reliable comparison, no change is shown. The monthly report counts postings first seen during that calendar month.

What the data cannot tell you

Not every job is advertised publicly. Some are filled through networks, internal hiring or headhunting, and they do not appear in any posting data.

The data is not official statistics. Figures from Statistics Finland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment are based on surveys and registers, and their definitions differ from counting postings. The numbers are therefore not directly comparable. They complement each other: posting data is faster and more detailed, official statistics more comprehensive.

How articles and reports are produced

The monthly report is calculated directly from the same dataset the service shows, and the report states which period the figures cover.

Articles are written by the Herizon team. AI may be used for drafting, but a person reads every text and checks its figures against the data before it is published. Articles state where their figures come from and which period they cover.
